About This Job

What We Did

Three hundred fifty linear feet of cedar fence wrapped a Chicago property that had clearly weathered its share of hard winters and humid summers — the kind of fence where the grain had opened up and the natural color had faded toward gray, leaving the pickets, posts, upper and lower braces thirsty for something to push back the moisture. The full scope covered both the interior and exterior faces in all accessible areas, calculating out to 3,150 square feet of cedar surface once you account for the height of the pickets and the framing members running the length of the run.

Before we touched a brush, the scope got squared away precisely: 150 linear feet of exterior-side fence was deducted from the workable area — 60 feet where chain link ran adjacent and 90 feet of wire fence blocked access entirely. What remained got a full application of TWP 1500 Series oil-base semi-transparent sealer in Natural, worked into the posts, braces, and pickets by hand to get the product into the grain rather than sitting on top of it. The customer had cleared obstructions ahead of time and kept a water source and power available throughout, which let the crew stay in rhythm and move through the yardage without interruption. Invoice followed the same day we wrapped.

Q&A

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from Chicago homeowners researching Wood Fence Restoration.

How much does wood fence restoration cost in Chicago, IL?

93 per linear foot. Pricing is driven by fence length, the condition of the wood, and the finish selected — a fence with heavy weathering or damaged boards will take more prep work and push costs up.

How long does it take to restore a wood fence?

A cedar fence in the 300–400 linear ft range typically takes our crew one to two days from start to finish, depending on how much cleaning and prep the wood requires. Heavily weathered cedar that needs thorough stripping and brightening will add time compared to a fence in better overall shape.

What's included in a wood fence restoration service?

On this project we cleaned and prepped the full 350 linear ft of cedar fence, addressed any surface weathering, and applied a natural-tone finish to bring the wood back to a consistent, protected appearance. The process covers cleaning, brightening, and finish application — so the fence is fully treated, not just surface-dressed.

How long does fence staining last on a cedar fence?

On cedar, a quality penetrating stain or sealer typically holds up three to five years before the wood needs attention again, though Chicago's freeze-thaw winters and summer humidity can shorten that window on fences that get heavy sun or moisture exposure. Keeping an eye out for graying or water absorption is the easiest way to know when it's time to restore rather than waiting for the wood to crack or split.
